Two interesting programs about Syrian Community Sponsorship Refugees
We have recently watched two very interesting programs about refugees from Syria who have come to the UK through Community Sponsorship and the Government Resettlement Programme, which we would like to recommend.
The first is on Radio 4 available on BBC Sounds - The Kindertransport and Syrian Refugees in Birmingham
The second is on BBC iplayer TV - Our Lives, Series 3: From Syria to Scotland
From Syria to Scotland , was such an encouraging programme to watch & enjoy , whilst it didn’t pull any punches about the harsh reality of the horrors of war , it truly demonstrated the powerful resilience of the Syrian families featured , their recovery , their determination to integrate , succeed & contribute to their new community . The teenage boys featured were utterly delightful , & would I hope allay some fears that host communities might feel about newcomers from Refugee Camps .
ReplyDeleteThe Kindertransport & the Syrian Refugees radio programme is another inspirational story of human resilience in the face of War and the need to escape to a place of safety .This programme highlighted multiple Faith responses to incoming families & the true understanding they can receive from former refugees .I felt it demonstrated how we all have the opportunity to grow & learn when we engage fully with new people who are facing new challenges integrating into a host community . One man described that shared language culture & habits didn’t convey a welcome when his family fled to Jordan, unlike when he arrived in Birmingham and received a true welcome helpfulness and hospitality .
ReplyDeleteSuch a lesson for us .
