The latest happenings and non happenings of Croeso Llantwit!

 

As I sit and look out of the window at the garden it is impossible not to be aware of the changing of the season and the passing of time. When we first heard of Covid the scene was very different; there was the promise of new life heralded by the trumpets of daffodils, and now we find ourselves at the end of both Spring and Summer beginning to prepare for Winter.

Nearly seven months have passed in what feels like a season of unreality. For some the time has felt like a gift, but for many the harsh reality of the new norm has been difficult and painful. For people languishing in refugee camps life has continued to be awful and with little hope. When a major catastrophe strikes the world takes note and some respond, but as time goes by it is overtaken by another and people are forgotten.

We have not forgotten, but we are helpless to move forward in the current climate. The two things that hold us back are Covid and the lack of housing.
We would like to be in a position when the time is right to join with others in putting pressure on the government, but we need to be ready and able to proceed before we can do that effectively. 

We would like to be able to purchase a property for Croeso Llantwit to ensure the sustainability of the project and are looking at ways of funding this. It may be that in the meantime we have to rent on the open market, but in the long term we feel that will not be sustainable and we do not want to bring a family to join us here in Llantwit without giving them every opportunity to settle and feel secure.
So, although on the surface nothing appears to be going on, we are still working towards enabling a family to make a new life in Llantwit. We are in touch with the Home Office who are still working towards the same goal as we are.

As we move into Winter we will continue to pursue suitable accommodation – how lovely would it be to have a house that we could prepare and furnish in readiness! And as winter gives way to Spring and we find ourselves at the end of a year dominated by Covid let us hope that we can at last make our hope  reality.
